As a tradesman worker, when you are contracted to work in a building, in other to avoid exposure to asbestos, you will need to do the followings:
1. Avoid working in buildings you are not sure asbestos are present.
2. Do not start work until your customer or boss tells you much about the walls of the building.

3. Do not work in the premises if the asbestos fibres present are a sprayed coating, board, or lagging on pipes and broilers. Only licensed contractors should work there.
4. Only agree to work if you have been properly trained about dealing and handling asbestos.
5. Also make sure you are working with the right equipment if asbestos are found within the premises.
6. To minimize asbestos dust, use hand tools instead of power tools, and keep materials damp, but not wet. Clean up as you go, using a special (class H) vacuum cleaner (not a brush).
7. Double-bag asbestos waste and label the bags properly.
8. When working with asbestos, always wear a proper mask. Ordinary dust masks are not effective.
